The RJ Mitchell wind tunnel at the University of Southampton has a test section of 3.5 m x 2.44 m x 10.5 m and a max speed of 40 m/s. It has a 6-component overhead balance with various mounting options, underfloor 2- component balance and two point motorised strut for vehicle work. It has a rolling road with boundary layer suction. It is equipped with the latest HWA, stereo time resolved PIV and LDV systems.

Formerly at Farnborough the tunnel was moved to Southampton in the 1980s to accommodate extensive motorsport work.

• Motorised yaw turntable on both floor and ceiling.
